PCIFIC Has been Rewritten From Scratch!

PCIFIC has been rewritten completely from scratch.

We went deep into the old codebase, listened to your feedback, and decided a full rebuild was necessary. Not a polish pass. Not a theme tweak. A new foundation for the marketplace you use to buy and sell tech.

This is still PCIFIC. The goal is the same. The experience should feel very different: snappier, clearer on mobile, more consistent, and built around how people actually browse, list, and check out.

We wanted an experience people would actually like. We believe the old PCIFIC was not that. So we started again.

Why we rewrote it

Three things pushed us over the edge.

Performance. The old site had grown heavy. Pages pulled more data than they should. Browsing on a phone, opening a listing, or moving through tools often felt slower than a marketplace should.

An old codebase. The previous stack was hard to maintain. Every new feature cost more time and risk. Patching forever was not going to get us where users needed us to be.

What you told us. Dark mode is great at night, but a lot of you said you could not use it in the sun. Listing from a phone felt limited if you only wanted to send photos. Cart, login, and listing flows needed to feel modern and consistent. Mobile needed real attention, not a squeezed desktop layout.

What is better for you day to day

Here is what the rewrite actually changes when you use PCIFIC.

Everything feels snappier. Pages load with less bulk. Listing pages, search, tools, and account flows should respond faster and feel more “there” when you tap and scroll.

Mobile got a real pass. We adapted mobile heavily. Layouts, navigation, listing, and checkout paths are built to work on a phone first, not as an afterthought.

Light mode and dark mode. PCIFIC follows your system theme. Dark mode still works for evenings. Light mode is there when you are outside or in a bright room. No hunting for a toggle that never quite matched the room you are in.

Listing view is faster. When you open a listing, the new view is designed to be snappier, lighter, and more efficient so you can check photos, price, and details without waiting on a heavy page.

Cart has been completely rewritten. The cart flow was rebuilt so buying feels clearer and more reliable end to end.

Login has been adapted. Signing in and getting into your account should feel simpler and more consistent with the rest of the site.

Listing flow has been revamped. Creating a listing should be a lot quicker. On your phone, you can now type details as well as send images. We heard a lot of complaints about photo-only friction, so we fixed that.

Tools section revamped. Safeguard, Checkup, Buildr, listing tools, and the rest of the toolkit sit on the same lighter foundation, with more attention to detail and cleaner styling.

Styling is consistent. We wanted the whole product to feel like one place: home, search, listings, cart, account, and tools. Familiar patterns, fewer random UI jumps.

You will still notice the occasional bug. A rebuild this large always has edges. Most of the time everything should be fine. If something breaks, tell us and we will help.

What the statistics mean (in plain English)

We measured the old production app (PCIFIC-ST) against the new one (PCIFIC-STR). The numbers look technical, so here is what they mean for you.

Overall size and build weight

MeasurementBeforeAfterImprovementWhat this means for you
Production source503,632 lines182,111 lines63.8% smallerLess code to drag around means a leaner product that can stay faster as we add features.
Production source files2,22472567.4% fewerFewer moving parts. Easier for us to fix bugs and ship improvements without the old tangle.
Functional code (excluding CSS)365,560 lines113,894 lines68.8% smallerThe app logic itself is much lighter, so everyday actions have less overhead.
Production dependencies (runtime packages)962079.2% fewerFar less third-party bulk. That helps security, load time, and reliability.
Installed dependencies4.7 GB468 MB90.3% smallerThe project is dramatically lighter for the team to build and ship. That speed shows up as faster releases for you.
All compiled JS (gzip)2.59 MB1.40 MB45.8% smallerYour browser downloads and runs less JavaScript. Pages wake up quicker.
All compiled CSS (gzip)574 KB207 KB63.9% smallerLess style bulk. Layouts paint faster and more consistently.
Combined compiled code inventory3.17 MB1.61 MB49.1% smallerRoughly half the front-end code weight. Snappier first loads and transitions.
Warm server memory (after loading four pages)200 MB107 MB46.3% lowerThe server holds less memory to serve you. That supports smoother peaks and a more efficient site.

Tests, test fixtures, dependencies, and generated build folders were excluded from source totals.

First visit page weight

Matched localhost production pages. Each total combines gzip-compressed HTML, JavaScript, and CSS from the first response. Images, fonts, API responses, and later interactions are not included.

PageBeforeAfterSavingWhat this means for you
Homepage723 KB216 KB70.1%Landing on PCIFIC pulls about 3.35× less startup app data. Home should feel much lighter.
Buildr763 KB240 KB68.5%About 3.18× less bulk when you open Buildr. Planning a PC should start faster.
Safeguard713 KB224 KB68.6%About 3.19× less on Safeguard. Checking a listing gets out of the way quicker.
Search777 KB214 KB72.4%About 3.63× less on search. Finding tech should feel more immediate.

Bottom line: the rewrite is not “faster” as a slogan. It is literally less code and less data between you and the page. That is why listing views, tools, cart, and mobile should feel snappier.

Light mode, detail, and the little things

Adaptive themes were a big motivation. If your device is in light mode, PCIFIC uses light surfaces and readable contrast. If it is in dark mode, you get the darker UI. It follows the system so outdoor use and late-night use both work.

We also put more attention into the details: familiar styling, clearer hierarchy, and flows that match each other. Listing is easier. Tools look like they belong to the same product. The cart and login no longer feel bolted on from another era.

Listing from your phone

One of the loudest pieces of feedback was about listing on mobile. People did not want to be stuck only sending images. You can now type from your phone as part of the revamped listing flow, so describing the item is not trapped behind a photo-only path.

That sits next to the broader listing rewrite: quicker steps, clearer AI-assisted help where it belongs, and less friction from “I am on my phone and this is awkward.”

What you might notice when you return

  1. You may need to log in or sign up again. After a full stack change, sessions can reset. If you are asked to sign in, that is expected.
  2. You might hit the occasional bug. We tested hard, but real life always finds edges. Most things should work. If not, contact support.
  3. The experience should feel different in a good way: faster pages, better mobile, clearer cart and login, a quicker listing path, and tools that feel more polished.

What comes next

We cannot wait to add more on this foundation. We will keep supporting the marketplace for as long as we can: listening to feedback, fixing bugs, and shipping tools that make buying and selling tech less stressful.

Thank you for using PCIFIC, for the honest feedback (including “dark mode is brilliant until I step outside” and “let me type on my phone”), and for sticking with us through the rebuild.

It is a completely different experience. We think you will not want to miss it.
